Many of environmental problems are results of human activities—both intentional and unintentional — that eventually either drive or trigger environmental catastrophes. A better understanding of such problems and their consequences at community levels is crucial to change public opinion and garner public support for environmental protection. Mass medias— radios, social medias, newspapers, televisions— are critical avenues to reach, communicate and influence people about an alarming intensity and frequency of environmental problems. Media portrayal of environmental issues affect public support for conservation. Center for Conservation Biology conducts in-depth research about status of environmental education among local communities and integration of environmental issues in media reporting. CCB also engages medias, notably journalists, to foster effective conservation communication in Nepal.
